Crossing into Mexico You must have a valid proof of citizenship in addition to a driver's license, such as: passport, birth Certificate (or certified copy), and voter's registration. Due to U.S. Regulations, you will not be able to cross agricultural products back into the U.S., including fruits, vegetables, poultry, pork, or exotic animals. However, many items are exempt from U.S. Customs duties, meaning you can bring home as much as $400 worth of duty-free retail items. Above that, a small tax is assessed.
